Research: Carol Vernallis

Vernallis looked at the use of camera work and editing in music videos, and came to the conclusion that it was used far more frequently than in films. She had a couple of conclusions, which were:
  • Base tracks are constantly used to give an specific structure to the music video, sometimes up to 20
  • The camera moves in time with the music/beat
  • Continuity editing rules are not followed to stop the viewer from losing intrest and the video to become predictable
  • Obvious edits are used like slow motion and fades
  • Jump cuts are used regularly to make the video faster

This song by Mø uses all of Vernallis' features, but the one that i picked it for was the editing style. It uses a lot of slow motion but also it has reversed scenes in it, which i really like in music videos
