21st November - Editing session problems

In today's lesson, we were more stressed than usual as we ran into some difficulties. If it hadn't been for this new footage that we recorded, we would have been complete with the rough cut and we would have been able to upload it for today. However, because of this new footage and other little changes that have been made; this is a major setback and we will have to work hard in order to submit the rough cut by the deadline.

1st problem -

For some reason, final cut would not let us insert new lines of clip. We had thought that perhaps this was because it had hit limit, because we had 50 lines however we found out that the limit of clips is 99. Although it eventually let us insert new clips after a while, throughout the editing session it kept disallowing us to insert clips, which was really annoying.

2nd problem -

We tried to insert more narrative into our story. After watching it objectively, we realized that some parts of the narrative that we had cut out because we thought it would have been too long was actually necessary for an outsider to understand what was going on. Because of this, footage was inserted about halfway through our video, which then messed everything after it up. The footage after where the new clip had been inserted became off beat, and seemed off. We could not undo this action as the project had already been saved, so Ebony and I spent some time in workshop trying to sort everything out and get it back to normal, while still adding the new narrative. This was found to be the most stressful and we have decided that we will finish this off in a workshop or in the next editing session.

On the upside, however, because of the new footage, we have a wider range of clips to chose from. The main reason that we decided to re film was because the performer did not seem to have enough emotion in his expression. Although the song and video is pretty depressing and it would not have made sense for them to be dancing around etc, he simply looked bored. With this new base tracks and cutaways that we have, the performer looks more emotional and in tune with the music.
