Blogging Review

As our second blog health check is coming up,  I have taken the time to review my blogging. Although this week I haven't blogged as consistently as I have been focusing on editing, I believe that my blog has improved since last time.

On my last blog health check, I got 15/20. I believe this has gone up to at least 16 or more for a number of reasons:

 - I have used even more of a variety of media technology to present my blog. For example, I used powtoon in the last group blog. I've also used thinglink, animoto, mindmeister, vooki and many other technologies.

- I blog consistently. Before, I used to blog only one day in the week or every other week. However, now I blog several times in a week.

- I believe that a lot of my blogs are quite detailed.

- I have stuck to the blogging checklist. Although I still have some blogs to do, I have mostly stuck to the checklist and do not think that I am behind.

- For the most part, my blogs are in order.

Production of music video: Improving rough cut

As we got improvement points for our rough cut, today in workshop we have already started to tweak the rough cut in order to make it better. We also did additional things that was not fed back to us by the audience that we thought would make the video better.

In this shot, we slowed down the videos of the girl in the water so it would have more of an impact of the audience.

We changed the guitar shot that we used as we felt the framing was slightly off. We decided to use the shot of the guitar on the left instead.

The four shots below shows us listening to the audience feedback and removing most of the door shot. We felt that we couldn't get rid of all of it as it would look weird if he was just walking on the street then suddenly in his house. However the shot is much shorter and looks more effective.

We got mixed opinions about this shot. Some people suggested that the shot is too long and that we should cut between it however others praised us and said that the amount of time it was was effective as it's a very slow bit in the song and it contrasts with the fast paced edits and song in the next bit.

We was also advised to put steadicam on our shots. We tried it on this shot, and we have decided we may just have to use another shot. Although steadicam makes the camera more smooth, it makes the clip considerably blurry and it is very noticeable in comparison to all of our other clips.

In this session, we also added some breaks in between the narrative as I felt that it was too much narrative at one point. We broke this up between the performance and the narrative and slowed and sped up some of the clips. In addition, we fixed the end bit of our music video as we felt that that was our main problem anyway. We cut between basetracks and cutaways, and removed the bird like the audience fed back to us, and we also added some repeat narratives into the ending.

short list of potential photos I may use in my digi-pak and advertisement.

The two pictures above show the performer 'twenty-two'. I decided that Iolo should be the main focus on the digi-pak I am creating and so he is the main accessory in both images. I decided to go with the
second image, simply because it is a full frontal image of his face with the correct expression, which is what I wanted to capture for my album cover and advertisement. I like this image also because of its simplicity which is something I have been trying to achieve in the designing of my digi-pak and advertisement. and with this particular image I will be able to enhance that idea. It's not to say that I didn't like the first image, but I felt that the prop (the cacti) was quite random and it didn't match what I am going for at this time. it also looks quite morbid which I don't think is the right way to go when trying to attract the type of audience I am looking to attract, in general they are fun loving people and I don't think that image matches that.

Editing session review

In order to efficiently edit our music video and maintain good time managment leading up to the deadline we have taken each session and given ourselves a focus point on what needs to be worked on most prominently. As for todays session our main goal was to get our music video ready to be posted onto our blog as a rough cut. so essentially todays session was about cleaning up parts of the production that didn't work as well as we'd initially thought. Last minute attachments were made to the video in order kick-start the inclusion of obvious edits and so far we experimented through making speed changes on certain jump cuts and putting smooth cam on a few of our base tracks. Overall i would say that this session went well and we were able to reach our goal which in itself is a small achievement.

Q3.notes and preperations.

What have you learnt from audience feedback?

we got feedback form our peers in the classroom about what went well and what could have been improved, below are the ideas presented to us.
  • At the time our ending was slightly scrambled so they suggested we structure it fully.
  • There is a base track in the music video that connects with the emotion the singer is feeling and it slows down the whole song accordingly which was effective.
  • we have a strong narrative.
  • Unfortunately the camera was shaky in certain places.
I have learnt how to take constructive criticism and have even improved my skills and ability to use final cut pro in listening to the feedback given. I have also learnt about how important visuals are in order to communicate feeling and emotion in a music video rather than just constantly rushing the editing throughout the video.

Feedback on Rough Cut

In todays lesson, we showed our rough cut to the rest of the class and got feedback. We were already aware of some of what needed to be changed already, as the end of the video was not fully complete however we had feedback from the class and Rebecca and below is the criticism that we received.

Rough Cut

favourite student music video i analysed-hamit

Valeza, Jessica, Erika, Stavroulla from 283goswell on Vimeo.

this is a previous music video that was created a few years back in city and islington college in the media department. it was produced by a group of four Valeza Bakolli, Jessica Nock, Erika Aleksejeva and Stravoulla Economou.

i chose this music video to be my favourite because of many reasons. one of the main reasons was the editing of this music video. i like the way they have edited the special effects in to the music video with the colour filters, slow motion and the focus of the shot wen it blurs slightly. the use of black and white in this music video is used in a powerful way because it is able to identify ti the audience automatically that this is song is a love song that has a powerful and strong narrative within it. The group have editing cutaway shots with the doves and i believe that those perticular  cutaways give the music video that love like atmosphere and this goes along with the genre of this song.

the camera work in this video is again amazing and the camerawork has an affective effect in the video with the close ups on the main actor in the music video whom is the singer and producer of the actual song. The mise ene scene has been used affectively in advanced with them other aspects of a music video because the props used in this music video have been picked out carefully so it goes with the flow and genre of the song. they have used the bird in the cage, the candles and drawings with words that present love. these are good ways to make an music video affective in many ways towards the audience.

reflection on my blogs- hamit

my refection on my progress for the blog so far has developed in many ways, i have started using more technologies in my work and developed my skills in using the terminology in my work and creating more detailed work. if i was to  mark my work out of 20 i would mark it 13 because of the extended use of prezi, images, thinglink and more. the use of these technologies good because it has helped me present my work in a more detailed way and show it in a clear and presentable format. i have started putting more understandable details in my wording when analysing products and work that is incorporated to ours.

things that we may need to improve on my blogs;

  • use different kinds of technologies
  • edit previous blogs with new technologies
  • blog more.

Question 4: Notes and preperations

How did you use media technologies in the construction and research, planning and evaluation stages?

construction
when putting together our music video we mainly used a program called final cut pro which helped us edit what we needed to as well as add  in any texts that we needed. we also used you tube to import the original audio through handbrake. Handbrake was used for everything when we needed to import and export other media products or drafts. The college equipment was also used to film it all. Hard drives, and flip cameras were used.
research
Different search engines were used over safari or Google chrome sometimes Fox search engine.
flip cameras were used in order to get some interviews on file to help us in making certain decisions and fro capturing audience feedback.
planning
we used different forms of ICT and phone apps to communicate and write up our ideas.
mobile phones were used to download different mobile phone apps.
evaluation
...

Qusetion 4: How did you use media technologies in the construction

Questiion 1: notes and preperations

In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

 In terms of usage:
In our music video we have definitely taken on the conventions of an alternative music video in the sense that it is very simplistic and makes use of the natural environment without the use of dramatic props and costumes.

In terms of development:
to develop forms and conventions we included a narrative in order to show our capabilities in producing something within the video which would immediately appeal to western viewers as it is typical of western music videos to have a narrative in majority of genres that are around.

In terms of challenging:
we did this by not including any bright synthetic colors or edits we decided to keep these to a minimum to create a clear distinction between our chosen genre and to also give the music video a unique edge.

skills development

The most substantial difference we made this year in terms of planning compared to last year is the amount that we tailored our music video to a specific audience. Last year we had very few blogs relating o target audience, although i think that audiences differ greatly in regards to tv and music. You only listen to music you like (or want to like) whereas people watch whatever tv is on so the target audience is less concentrated but it may have a larger viewing amount. A lot of people have been saying that there was a lot more planning that went into these music videos, which I agree with, but I disagree with the storyboarding aspects. Due to the fact that ours is very highly narrative,  we had to keep to a strong plan for them sections but base tracks are a lot less rigid and can be thrown about.

Skills development

Personally, i realised that for my AS project i didn't go into enough detail about each aspect of the planning process for example when it came to building up the story board the images drawn to illustrate each scene were quite vague and simple, whereas now despite my inability to draw amazing images I was able to compensate through detailed annotation on the different things that will be focused on in each scene. Another place where I thought I was able to show my growth in the way I conducted certain planning tasks, was when i looked at the original music video to our chosen song and analysed it. For example, Last year we viewed pervious student films however didn't storyboard them, further more, what we did see wasn't exactly relative to the production we were looking to make-in terms of genre-. whereas, this year plenty of background research has been put into it and through this I have been able to get a better grasp on what I'm doing. So I would definitely say that my analysing skills have improved and I have developed the ability to pinpoint relevant information and use it to enhance and support the work i'm producing through my blogs.

21st November - Editing session problems

In today's lesson, we were more stressed than usual as we ran into some difficulties. If it hadn't been for this new footage that we recorded, we would have been complete with the rough cut and we would have been able to upload it for today. However, because of this new footage and other little changes that have been made; this is a major setback and we will have to work hard in order to submit the rough cut by the deadline.

1st problem -

For some reason, final cut would not let us insert new lines of clip. We had thought that perhaps this was because it had hit limit, because we had 50 lines however we found out that the limit of clips is 99. Although it eventually let us insert new clips after a while, throughout the editing session it kept disallowing us to insert clips, which was really annoying.

2nd problem -

We tried to insert more narrative into our story. After watching it objectively, we realized that some parts of the narrative that we had cut out because we thought it would have been too long was actually necessary for an outsider to understand what was going on. Because of this, footage was inserted about halfway through our video, which then messed everything after it up. The footage after where the new clip had been inserted became off beat, and seemed off. We could not undo this action as the project had already been saved, so Ebony and I spent some time in workshop trying to sort everything out and get it back to normal, while still adding the new narrative. This was found to be the most stressful and we have decided that we will finish this off in a workshop or in the next editing session.

On the upside, however, because of the new footage, we have a wider range of clips to chose from. The main reason that we decided to re film was because the performer did not seem to have enough emotion in his expression. Although the song and video is pretty depressing and it would not have made sense for them to be dancing around etc, he simply looked bored. With this new base tracks and cutaways that we have, the performer looks more emotional and in tune with the music.

Editing session: 21st November

For this session we decided to focus on incorporating the different clips that were re-shot the day before  as we found when re-evaluating our work that certain shots were not of the correct standard of an A2 student and wanted to meet that expectation. In doing so the editing process did increase in difficulty, and so provided further challenges for the group, however through persistence and co-operation we got through it.

Filming day 5

Me and Ebony went to go and re shoot some footage yesterday because the base tracks were annoying me and i looked uncomfortable in them. I uploaded the shots to a flickr album here

Editing session 19/11/2014

In today's lesson, we focused on adding in the footage that was reshot. As we used a different camera for the first part of the video to achieve a dream like effect, this took up a lot of our time as we have to constantly render the video because it was different to the college camera. We decided that we will film for the last time tomorrow, just to ensure that we have the right amount of footage and to fix some mistakes in filming that we did not notice before.

Analysis of video I saw

Recently, on a music channel, I saw a music video by taylor swift called "Blank Space". The video is below.

Mise-en-scene
There are several different costume changes within the video. I counted a total of around 15. This may be to show the amount of time that has passed within the music video, as there many repeat locations of around 4, but several different costume changes. In this case, it makes sense to have the amount of costume changes and different locations there were.

I also noticed that this video is split into narrative and performance, like many other videos with the artist herself both "narrating" and acting in the music video. The video is very heavy on narrative as I only counted around 3 basetracks and 1 basetrack that was frequently visited throughout the whole video. Although, sometimes it was hard to differentiate between the base tracks and the story as she lip syncs as she's acting as well. I think that sometimes throughout the video I think it was effective, however as she did it throughout the whole video and every scene, I do not think its effective and can come across a little comical and cheesy - which she may have actually been going for but i'm not sure. In comparison to our music video that we are producing, I'm glad that we have kept the storyline and performance completely different as I do not think lip syncing whilst acting is effective. Especially as if she did want it to light and comical, she could because it's an upbeat genre and the video can be seen as quite funny, however ours is completely different and more serious and we would not like it to come across as comical.

Camera
In a lot of music videos, the camera is constantly moving; either panning or zooming or following the artist. Although the camera does do this quite a bit in this music video, the camera is also static a lot of the time and does not move. Especially while there is a lot going on in the frame or when there is fast edits for example the close ups of the actors. We have also incorporated this in our music video that we are currently in the process of editing, as although there is camera movement in some base tracks and scenes, we have purposely decided not to in the others as there will be fast edits or something that we want to audience to focus on in the video.

Editing
Whilst watching this video I also noticed that only some of the editting was to the beat. A lot of it was purposely a little off the beat or the beat was completely ignored and the edits were according to when the narrative needed it. There is also a lot of slow motion in and throughout the video. At the moment, we have only added slow motion to the end bits of our music video because we did not want it to be too much slow motion, however after watching this music video and many other music videos, I have noticed that there is lots of slow motion throughout their videos and it looks perfectly normal so we may add some more to ours.

planning- how synergy is incorporated in our music video

How i have identified and came to a conclusion on how i could present synergy in my video is by designing a digipak that would include signs that would be identified in the video for example i would design a digipak that would have a swamp and forest background in the digipak. this is the only source of synergy that we would have contained in our music video. i would have a image of  Iolo "our singer/actor" in the front side of the album cover with a edit of a green and swamp like back ground. this would also be a major synergy that i would use because Iolo would be acting through out the whole music video.

planning- analysis on song choice digipak

This is the digipak for the song i have chosen;

Alt-J Breeze Blocks;

this is the original design for the album cover for Breeze Blocks. as you could see this album cover has a surreal design to it. you are able to state the name and the band in the picture instantly but as you could see the singers covering their faces, i dont know what the meaning of this could be but another thing you could see is that they have made the triangle black and white. maybe this could represent the sense of death and greyness in the video its self this could be a sign if synergy in this album at the same time.

filming opening 15th nov

We only had to film two very short clips for the opening so i borrowed my friends camera to shoot them. Theses are going to be our slow motion clips, but because they were so shot i figured i should put them on the blog. These were shot with a Canon 650D but for some reason blogger messes up the video quality.

Editing style inspiration

I recently came across this music video and was very impressed by it's aesthetics. I think that in certain aspects it closely links to ours, and i was thinking about why i thought it looked successful. I think that using green environments really helps to make music videos look more professional. A problem I had with a lot of previous students videos was with the shots that were filmed on public roads and places with shops, simply because you wouldn't find logos like that in a high budget professionally made video. It also starts off with some editing that was quite similar to what we did in our prelim with the flipping characters. I think one piece of special effects that was extremely effective was when the girl gets mirrored and then undone with the beat of the song (2:30). I think we could replicate this effect in our own video. I also really like the colour edit that they used on the video. The darkest points have all been raised to look like greys, so i tried experimenting on photoshop to see if i could recreate the colours.
I took this photo of the actress whilst we re filmed the beginning of the video. I noticed that in the tiny implosions video the greens were very un green, so i used selective colouring to make them turn blue instead. I had to use two adjustment layers to make it darker. I then touched on the curves to make the darkest bits a little lighter which, i think, gives a much softer image. I recently found out that you can edit video files on photoshop so hopefully i'll be able to use it then because the final cut one is really long to use.

planning- song choice-hamit

the song that we have chosen to use for our course work is Breeze blocks by Alt-J this is a suitable song choice for our genre which is Indie.

http://youtu.be/rVeMiVU77wo
how our video would differ from the original video? our music video would firstly have several different locations and base tracks. similarly our music video would have a death scene where a actor would be drowning another person (actor) in the music video and this would be a part of our theme in the music video this doesn't mean we are copying the original because we would have a totally different storyline. a location would be in a lake in a park which is a totally different location than the original music video. the actors would have different dress codes that the original and there would be and main singer in the song as the same time as a narrator.

Production: Updated production schedule - Leanne

We had originally planned to finish all filming in the half term. However, when we came to edit, we had decided that it would be better if we filmed more footage. After actually putting together half of the music video, we have decided against filming anymore base tracks as we have around 7, which is fine as we have a lot of narrative to cover in the music video anyway and also have a lot of cut aways. Instead, we will just refilm the beginning of the music video as we had trouble putting the beginning together as the song jumps straight into it; it gives no time for the performer to get themselves together so the beginning of every base track is unusable. A suggestion of a costume change was also put out there, however we all decided against this as we want the audience to understand how quick this all happens and to understand that it happens all in one day.

Editing session 14/11/2014

Today in our editting session, Ebony and I almost finished editting our rough version of our music video. We incorporated more of the narrative into our music video & have added more location into our video as before we only had shots from outside in our music video but now we have shots from inside a house. In addition to this, we have added multiple effects such as slow motion, fast motion and fades. We have also tried to perfect our editting to the beat or according to the shot, which I think is almost getting there.

Add caption

Adding the shots from inside of the house. We added this shot and some close ups. We also slowed the pace of the video down from 100% to 50%. Sometimes we thought that the video would benefit from being especially slow, so in that case we would change it from 100% to either 30% or 20%.

Close up of performer that we added.

We have started to add cut aways into our music video as we finished adding in most of our basetracks (kind of) and our narrative. This is a cutaway of some geese but there are others of the performer and narrative cutaways.

Another cutaway of the performer in a nice location.

The start of the narrative from inside a house.

Experimenting with shots of the performer. We decided that we liked this shot and used it in a jump cut and slowed it down.

This is a picture of one of mine & Ebony's favourite basetrack as there is a lot of movement of the camera and the artist looks convincing. We often revert back to this base track as it very reliable and other basetracks are not so much.

Feed back to an assessment.

37 posts at health check 1: At this point in the term we would expect students to have between 45-50 blog posts and so you may be a little bit disappointed with the grade that your blog is currently worth.  It wouldn't be right for me to be untruthful about what your blog could end up with if you don't do the necessary changes outlined below.  Although you are more or less up to date (there are some missing though: analysis of ancillary and website for artist / own analysis of three influential music videos / animatic / reflection on feedback from pitch - really worrying that this isn't there as I gave you lots!) you haven't blogged off the task sheet and this is what sets the blogs apart.  As it states on the checklist- if you stick to the sheet then you will get a C - if you devise blogs of your own and really engage with it more then you can get higher.  It's easy to rectify though: I would like to see you catch up with all the missing posts (and make sure that you fill in the post production blog for the pitch which you authored but which is blank at the moment); then make sure that you individually blog after each filming and editing session - reflect back on what you think the strengths and weaknesses of the filming/editing sessions were and think about improvements that need to be made.  Not too much of an onerous task.  Remember that the moderator has to go by what is on the blog - they can't see how you work in class or in your group.  Don't let yourself down (your group contribution is excellent - but not reflected in your blog at the moment).  Good luck!

Above is posted the feedback I got from one of my teachers outlining the areas in which I need to improve on my blogging tasks. I am pleased to say that the majority of points made above I have taken on board and responded by completing the work I needed to in order to be in a better place on my blog. I am now up to date and feel as though I am getting a better grasp on the subject as a whole. Getting such detailed feedback is extremely helpful as i get to reflect on myself as a student. As well as this, I found it to be motivating as praise in my strongest areas were mentioned also so reading it didn't lead me to become discouraged, it made me want to excel and reach the same standards in my weakest areas.

Reflection on progress blog.

Looking back at my previous progress blog I realise that I have majorly improved between then and now. I feel that I am more or less up to date with all my blogs and am in more control of the time spent on blogging tasks.A major improvement for me i would say is being able to pin point which different types of ICT and Apps I could be using that would be most appropriate to display certain blogs, this was a challenge for me as I had to learn the various different skills required to navigate around that particular form of ICT or App, however I was able to do this and in doing so was successful in fulfilling one of my own personal goals for improvement. As for making my blog more visually appealing I am still struggling slightly with this, as I find it difficult to stray away form the overall look of our group blog without making my blogs seem too different from the image our group has already created which evidently is quite challenging. Therefore I am going to give myself 14/20 as there is always room for improvement and i don't feel as though iv'e fully grasped what is necessary to succeed with my blogs yet.

Further tasks that i need to work towards:

  • I need to make my blogs more visually interesting.
  • I need to be more creative and think up some more individual blogs

Blog feedback

Editing - 12/11/2014

In today's lesson, we experimented with editting. We decided that we would try to incorporate some slow motion into what we have so far. We changed the speed from normal which is 100% to 30% which is slow motion. We experimented going from slow to fast back to slow back to normal and at the end of the lesson, we decided going against using slow motion in the specific scene that we were going to however we have decided that we will definitely incorporate slow motion but nearer to the end of the song.

In addition to this, as many people were editting final cut pro crashed several times whilst we tried to edit. This wasn't that much of an issue as we kept saving our project every 5 minutes or so, however sometimes we would have to redo what we just etc and then it would crash again. However, we realise how important it is to save our work frequently.

We also decided that we will be re filming some scenes tomorrow. Although we thought that we were done filming, it's for the best that we re film as a lot of the basetracks were unusable because of issues eg camera was too shaky, performer was not singing etc.

Planning: Synergy in our products

As we are signed to an independent label, some of our money will be made from our merchandise and our live performances. We will have our own website that will sell our merchandise that our fans can buy and therefore raise awareness of us. I have considered our target audience in mind when making these products. As our target audience like wearing 'cool out there' clothing, such as:

Target audience wearing

As you can see, beanies seem to be very on trend among our target audience, as are tshirts that have writing on them etc. Therefore, I have designed our merchandise against the trend of the target audience and have incorporated our synergy - of the sea, the colour blue and our song lyrics - into the merchandise.

Production: Notes & ideas for evaluation Q1

Editing vlog & sneak preview

Editing: Storyboard changes

So far, we have had to make many changes to what we originally thought our video would be. We have tried to follow the storyboard as closely as possible, however in many cases it is not possible because in certain shots, at times the camera would be too shaky to use or the performer is singing very slightly so it looks off etc. It's not a major issue as we just have to use different basetracks or cutaways instead, however this means that we are not following the origibal storyboard.

In addition, we filmed a lot of narrative and wanted to incorporate this into the beat changes but we soon found out that there was too much narrative to simply just put into the beat changes and we had to add some more throughout the video.

editing session- friday 7th november- hamit

in todays lesson Ebony, Leanne and Iolo were finalising the editing for the base tracks and have slowly started editing some of the other shots for the introduction of the music video. we are coordinating the narrative so it suits the songs rhythm. we also started the markers for the beat so we could edit into them with the other footage for the video.
in this shot, Ebony and Leanne are looking for the best possible shots to use for the introduction.

in this picture Ebony and Leanne are editing the beginning shot for the intro.

in this image, Ebony and Leanne are matching the footage to the song so the lip syncing is in perfect timing.

in this image they accidentally deleted a shot so they were undoing it to replace the shot.

in this image they are trying to see what two shots best match for a split screen idea for the introduction that we could use.

Editing session- wednesday 5th november

In todays lesson we started our early stages of editing by starting of by inserting all of our base tracks and lining them up so they match the timing of the lip syncing with the song.

These are some pictures of me (Hamit), Iolo, and ebony and leanne editing our base track sequence
Iolo was blogging some more information on what else happened through out the filming process for our music video.
in the following pictures you could see me and Ebony editing the base tracks and trying to match them with the songs rhythm and lip sync.

in this picture Iolo was blogging about our filming sessions and other group\personal blogs we had.

planning; digipack design- hamit

this is my personal album cover design i designed and produced as a possible idea we could use in the future. the picture on the right Iolo and we decided to call this album "22-twentytwo". on the left i used a picture of a swamp from google and produced a made up barcode and distributer.

Comparisons between origial music video and ours

I think that our music video is very different to Alt - Js video. Although both of our videos use the concept of drowning, the storyline, aesthetics and style are completely different. We chose to keep the drowning in because it's apparent in the lyrics.

The music video for Breezeblocks is awesome, and you only see the full of it after you've finished watching. Ours is a lot more simple, the narrative doesn't go into what the argument was about, whereas  theres is completely centred around it, and you learn more and more and your opinions change on the characters as it goes on.

They have a very specific colour scheme, the footage is all very dark and I think that there is a blue filter that has been put on top of it. Ours is very green, mostly because of location, and it is mostly filmed either in the day when it is bright or in the morning when the light is all diffused.

Our video follows the narrative of the murderer as he deals with the murder, and also following the singer. Alt J's video doesn't have the singer in it at all, and only shows the tiniest section of the coping with the act.

We decided to taper our outfits to the demographic of the music, so we went with relatively alternative clothes. The outfits in their video are very standard unidentifiable people, who probably wouldnt be die hard fans.

Storyboard of Alt J music video

below is the storyboard shot-by-shot of the music video.  I will explain below how ours will differ.

Our music video differs completely to the original Alt J music video for various reasons.

1. Alt J's original video did not have any lip syncing or performance and was strictly on narrative throughout the whole video. Our music video, however, is completely different as ours will be 50/50 or more of storyline and performance/narrative and lip syncing,

2. The whole video was in reverse for the Alt J video. Our video will not be in reverse and at no point in our video have we planned to use any reverse effect.

3. The actual storyline itself is different. In the Alt J music video, the man finds his (what I'm assuming to be girlfriend/sister/someone close to him) tied up by an intruder in his house. The rest of the video consists of the man physically fighting with the intruder in reverse order and freeing the victim. However, our storyline is that there is a man who is arguably a little unstable and him and his girlfriend have been arguing a lot and have encountered a lot of inconvenient domestic situations. This then leads him to murder her and the rest of the storyline follows how he deals with him murdering her and the aftermath of this.

4. The Alt J music video is shot in one location and that is in a house. Because of this, the lighting is quite dim and there is only one location. Most of our music video will be shot outside with bright lighting, however there will be different locations unlike the Alt J video.

5. The Alt J video costume was quite normal and average. However our costume for our music video is much more bright, patterned and out there.

Planning: Lesson 05/11/2014

planning- final song choice-ebony

                               Breeze blocks-Alt-J
We decided on this song after getting feedback from our peers about our song choice. Out of all our suggestions this song proved to be the most popular among our class mates. Additionally we went around the college and got some feedback from fans of the alternative music genre and asked about how feasible they thought it would be for us to use this song and whether or not it was popular with them and their peers.

Planning: Draft Digipak & Advertisement

This is my final digipak idea. Using lunapic, I decided to go for a fairly minimalistic background using our synergy of the sea. I thought it would be best to keep it minimal so that nothing is revealed to our audience, and so they would have to listen to the song/watch the video to find out what happens. In addition, I went for plain white text to stick to the minimalistic theme of the digipak. There is also a white border around it but as the backgrounds white you can't see it.

Whilst making this, I also thought some other ideas I had looked good.

I thought that the text was nice at first but then realised it was too designed

Thought about giving it a border but then realised it didn't look nice & had nothing to do with our artist or the song.
Also considered this font but I think it's hard to read

Also liked this font. But had in mind more of an italic font
