Researching Ancillary products: Inspiration

I was inspired by research into alternative indie genre's and our music video to create this album artwork. I found out that often in our type of genre music videos they do not feature the artist's face or the artist at all on the front cover, eg like pop artists do.  I had an initial idea of featuring the artist's face on the digipak, however I thought it would better suit the genre if I did not. Indie album covers are often very secretive, and give away very little of the actual music content.

For example,
Chase & Status album artwork

Both of these album covers contain very little and do not reveal much to the audience. It also does not contain the artist in any way and is arguably quite random. One thing that these albums have in common is that they are consistent with the text font.

Furthermore, even Alt J themselves, an alternative indie band, follow the conventions of their genre of music. They do not contain the artist on the front cover of their artwork and are consistent with their use of font on their albums, even though their colour schemes and designs change.

Similarly, THE XX also follow the conventions of the genre theme.

No sign of the artist on the album cover, and each album cover being considerably different from the last. Although they do have one synergy to connect them all together and that is the x's, which a fan or viewer of their work will know that it is from the xx because of that. From all of the examples above; I drew some inspiration for my digipak.

In addition, I really liked the introduction of our music video & think it goes very strongly with the genre & has clear links to the music video when a viewer looks at the artwork. I was inspired by the location and colours from this clip of our music video.
